Dr Charlie Wykes qualified as a Clinical Psychologist with University College London. He is accredited with the HCPC and holds Chartered Psychologist Status with the BPS. Since qualification he has treated adult clients in the NHS, who present with problems including depression, anxiety disorders such as OCD and social anxiety, and trauma. He uses evidence based treatments recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He is working towards accreditation in EMDR, meaning his clients’ cases will be closely supervised throughout treatment.
Dr Charlie Wykes has a special interest in supporting people with long term health conditions, understanding the psychological adjustments needed when changes in physical health result in enforced alterations to lifestyle. He has trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a form of CBT especially suited to this area.
Dr Charlie Wykes understands that every client will have taken a unique and personal journey into therapy. As a consequence his stance is that the client is the expert on their experience. His role is to understand what the client sees as life limiting problems and to collaboratively help them clarify the direction they wish their life to progress. Working alongside the client, Charlie helps build their resources to manage difficulty and find solutions that lead to desired change and growth.
